Indian Stock Market Weekly Review August 2009

Indian Stock market closed in the green on 21/08/2009 after the Indian Meteorological Department said there were indications of a revival in monsoon. There was some short-covering in the latter half of the trading session as well. Cues from the Asian market were mixed. While the Nikkei-225 and the Hang Seng Index slipped 1.4 per cent and 0.64 per cent, respectively, the Shanghai gained 1.69 per cent.India`s inflation rate stayed in negative terrain for the 10th week, despite food prices rising amid a widening drought. Annual inflation declined 1.53% for the week ended August 8 after dropping 1.74% the previous week, according to the Wholesale Price Index. Sensex lost 170.8 points and NSE Nifty lost 51.25 points during last week ended 21 August 2009.
